On 22 October Anthropic donated the Agent Skills open standard to the Linux Foundation's Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), handing over the name, logo, GitHub organisation and the agentskills.io domain; the AAIF, co-founded by Anthropic, Block and OpenAI, already hosts MCP. A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file plus scripts and references that teaches an agent a task. Anthropic says 70+ platforms including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code have integrated it, with 1 million skills published and nearly 280 million installs; engineers from Anthropic, Google, OpenAI and others will maintain it. The same week OpenAI donated Open Responses, its spec for a common LLM API, to the AAIF.
