Labelling AI-generated images and video on Chinese platforms

Symptoms
- A platform flags your video as possibly AI-generated or limits its reach
- You are unsure whether AI retouching or voice-over needs a label
Common causes
- The measures require providers to add explicit and implicit labels and users to declare when publishing
- Removing watermarks or re-processing can strip implicit labels
How to fix
- Tick the platform’s AI-generated content declaration when publishing (location varies by platform)
- Keep the explicit labels generators add (text notes, badges); do not crop or cover them
- Do not remove or alter implicit labels in metadata
- It applies to text, audio, images and video; voice-overs, face swaps and digital humans especially need a declaration
- For commercial use also confirm the generator’s commercial licence
Notes
- This summarises the official text and is not legal advice; the original text and platform rules prevail
- Overseas platforms (YouTube, TikTok…) have their own AI disclosure rules
